Carolina Blues Program Explores Indigo

Carolina Blues: Indigo on the Cape Fear will take place Saturday, September 26, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport, 204 East Moore Street. The free program will examine indigo's importance in 18th-century Carolina and demonstrate how enslaved African labor was used to extract the valuable dye. Visitors can view and work with an active fermentation vat, watch dyeing demonstrations, and learn about resist dyeing. The program is open to all ages and does not require a fee.
